Welcome to Farm With Zee : Hampden Farms 2024! As we prepare for the season, I am amplifying how important authenticity and vulnerability as a mentee is to your personal and professional journeys.
In 2023, I let go of my ideas on how to build this farm. In the video I share how we didn’t put the farm to bed last season. Exhausted and burned out there were times I was hopeless and navigating intrusive thoughts. Life was lif-ing and the unrest in my personal and professional life caused me to reevaluate my “why”.
In May of 2022, I met my multi hyphen fashion mentor Angela Medlin through the REI Co-op X FAAS Design Program. Please check her career journey as she’s likely designed for your favorite brand(s). Angela has a sustainable doggy lifestyle brand House Dogge, along with products for their humans, a 2020 Oprah's favorite! Angela recently joined HOKA Brand as Design Director for Apparel.
I share all this to say as a recovering people pleaser, my initial pattern was to try to “impress” Angela by sharing the more glowing parts of my life and business. Instead, I was vulnerable and authentic; I shared with her the unease in my personal and professional life. While I felt like my world was falling apart she reminded me that it wasn’t. That this was part of the process. I thought she was going to teach me how to create a fashion line, but what I needed was someone who could talk me through the heartbreak of sun-setting a project . I listened as she shared her illuminations and I accepted that mentorship is like farming. I have planted seeds and I am watching them blossom.
