Piece by Piece Open House: Announcing Denver Brick Club’s Launch with AOPYO
At Hampden Farms/Denver Brick Club, everything starts with belonging, creativity, and making people feel seen. As a mom, a facilitator, and someone who has navigated spaces where I didn’t feel like I fit, I know what it’s like to want more for ourselves and our families. That’s why Denver Brick Club matters. It’s for every youth who’s felt different, who sees the world in unique ways, and sometimes wonders where they belong.
We’re launching DBC in collaboration with Apprentice Of Peace Youth Organization (AOPYO). This is a space for teens and families who are quirky, creative, or have been told they’re too much or not enough. Pharrell’s journey, captured in his “Piece by Piece” film, aligns with what we’re building. Like so many, he didn’t fit in-and now he’s an icon because he stayed true to his creative spirit. That story is our blueprint.
Denver Brick Club is about making sure every student: neurodiverse, neurotypical, creative, quiet, questioning, bold-can feel at home in their imagination and in their body. Our 6-8 week pilot gives teens the mentorship, structure, and freedom they deserve, all rooted in evidence-based curriculum from Play Included and Project Baseplate at Carnegie Mellon University.
Why “Piece by Piece” Aligns
Pharrell’s film “Piece by Piece” doesn’t just inspire us, it matches up with what we are doing in Denver. The way he and his team translated LEGO into art, music, and storytelling is exactly how my family (and many like ours) process creativity, emotion, and resilience. Building with our hands, seeing things “click” together, and finding joy in the unexpected. All of it lines up with the ways neurodiverse minds play, learn, and heal.
What to Expect
A family-friendly celebration, no RSVP pressure, just come as you are
Movie-club energy centered around “Piece by Piece” as our creative foundation

Creative activities for all ages, from big teens to little siblings
Amazing food thanks to our friends at Konjo

Our doors are open for teens at every intersection, families learning together, educators seeking new tools, and advocates who believe wellness, play, and learning are for everyone. In building DBC, we’re making space for healing, innovation, and joy-because teens need us, and we need them.
“So much becomes possible when we build together, piece by piece. My own story of cultivating community, navigating differences, learning as a parent, growing as a facilitator-is proof that inclusion only happens when we do the work together.”
